Welcome

In my seventeen years as an outpatient psychotherapist, I have had the privilege to work with individuals, couples, and families
on a multitude of issues. I have special expertise in helping people who are dealing with: (click for more info)
Adjustment to life changes
New relationship, job, school. Positive life changes can be remarkably stressful, as well as the more negative ones such as divorce, death of a loved one (including companion animals), and the like.
Procrastination
Trying to get going with taking action to start those life changes, such as with a new career adventure.
Self-esteem
Holding self in generally negative regard is unhealthy emotionally, as well as physically. It truly is "an inside job" and worth the effort to change so that your quality of life improves, as well as your relationships with others.
Substance abuse or issues with substance use
In this area I do not prescribe a "one-size-fits-all" treatment. There is much variability in how people use substances and whether or not abstinence or moderation should be the goal.
Other compulsive behaviors
Spending, picking at self, pulling hair, counting and re-counting, excessive washing, etc.
Binge-eating/Overeating/Bulemia/Negative Body Image
It is a national pastime to watch weight and diet. However, despite this, you CAN have freedom from negative self-judgment! The growing field of "Intuitive" or "Mindful" eating is producing many positive and exciting changes for many people!
ADHD in adults and adolescents
Trouble focusing, attending to important matters whether at work, school, or home. Also, not knowing how to approach a career choice or change can be vexing for those with ADD.
Anxiety and depressive disorders of all types
Anxiety can manifest as that general feeling that "something’s not right" to full blown panic attacks with increased heart rate, tingling/numbness in hands, chest pressure, etc. Depression can also start as a feeling that "something’s not right" to losing interest in activities, sleeping more or less, eating more or less, or a general asking oneself, "What’s the point?"
Trauma-related issues; PTSD
I have worked with both men and women who are survivors of sexual assault, as well as other types of trauma. Unprocessed, these events can whittle away at one’s sense of safety and overall quality of life. There are extremely effective treatments for overcoming the aftereffects of these life altering experiences that DO NOT necessitate years of therapy.
Relationship/Couples/Family Work around multiple issues
I have experience with assisting both gay and straight couples through a variety of difficulties resulting in improved communication.
ACOA and Codependence issues
Trying to have a relationship with someone who has an addiction or addictive behaviors can be maddening. The temptation for those who have grown up in such an environment is to do "too much" for the other, at the expense of self.
